‘Solo Leveling’ Voice Actor Taito Ban: ‘It’s Embarrassing To Admit There’s Nothing Wrong With My Career Choice‘ (EXCLUSIVE)

Producer Atsushi Kaneko and voice actor Taito Ban from the superhit global anime series, “Solo Leveling” were recently in Mumbai for Comic-Con India. Taito is world-famous as the voice of Sung Jinwoo, the series’ central character. And much like Jinwoo, Taito, too, rose to fame after a long period of struggle.

The anime is based on the Korean fantasy web novel by Chugong. The animation series is made by the Japanese studio, A-1 Pictures. Now, fans are waiting for the third season that might come by the end of 2026 or 2027.

On the right career path
In a conversation with Variety India, he shares, “I feel that portraying this character was a really valuable experience for me, not just for the sake of my career as a voice actor but also for my personal life as well.” He further says that the success of “Solo Leveling” was a sign that he was on the right career path.

Taito reflects, “It feels like working on this project has confirmed that I'm doing something right. That there's nothing wrong with my career choice, which is kind of embarrassing to admit.” In the series, Taito takes us through the challenging journey of Jinwoo, also known as The Shadow Monarch.

A unique connect
Producer Atsushi Kaneko also endorses that Taito’s professional struggles truly helped him gauge the emotional journey of Jinwoo. He discloses, “There was a period where Taito had trouble getting roles as a voice actor. In the past, he faced real struggles paying off his dues. I think he sees a bit of that in the troubles Sung Jinwoo goes through. So, the project has a unique kind of connection with him.”

In “Solo Leveling,” Jinwoo starts off as the infamous weakest E-Rank Hunter who slowly becomes the greatest one in human history. It is the classic journey of an underdog.

One for all
About the anime fanbase in India, Kaneko says, “I did not anticipate that the series would become such a big hit the world over.” He credits the entire team for their efforts in making “Solo Leveling” such a big success. “I am not the only one working on the show, there are different staff members working towards a common goal. They all put their best foot forward, and I think that united approach made this a huge success.” The anime series "Solo Leveling" is streaming on Crunchyroll.
