Shahid Kapoor’s Next Is a Body-Swapping Comedy with Director Amit Sharma (EXCLUSIVE)
In February, Variety India broke the news that Shahid Kapoor will lead a new rom-com from "Badhaai Ho" and “Maidaan” director Amit Sharma.
The sci-fi comedy follows a married couple on the brink of divorce who unexpectedly swap bodies following a failed scientific experiment. This forces them to leave each other's daily routines, leading to comedic elements and a deeper understanding of one another. The film has a similar plot to an Italian film, “Husband & Wife".

Sharma's story based is a heartwarming comedy-drama defined by sharp wit and poignant emotional depth. The project echoes the world-building of Shahid Kapoor’s 2024 sci-fi rom-com hit, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya(TBMAUJ), which focused on a human-robot romance. Interestingly, this new venture emerges just as Maddock Films is already developing a TBMAUJ sequel.
While Shahid Kapoor has officially signed on, the female lead for the project is still to be locked. Producers are currently in discussions with his Kabir Singh co-star Kiara Advani and Janhvi Kapoor -- would be a first time pairing-- for the lead role. The untitled film is expected to go floors in late 2026, targeting a mid-2027 theatrical debut.
Meanwhile, Shahid is filming for Raj & DK's second season of Prime Video India's “Farzi”. The actor returns to reprise the role of Sunny for the new chapter of the black comedy thriller series, along with Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon, Raashii Khanna and Bhuvan Arora, among others. Up next, he will be seen in Homi Adajania's “Cocktail 2”, co-starring Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon. The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 21, 2026.
