Priya Thakur on ‘Vasudha’ topping TRP charts: ‘Being No.1 Three Times in A Row Is A Big Achievement’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Priya Thakur plays the lead role in Zee TV’s “Vasudha,” which is at the top spot on the TRP charts. It has dethroned biggies like “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2” and “Anupamaa.” The show has retained the top position for three weeks now. Thakur, who plays the lead role, tells Variety India, “It takes a lot of hard work to reach the top spot. We were once in 26th position. Being No. 1 three times in a row is a big achievement for our team. I hope we continue to stay at the top.”

Thakur also spoke about how senior actresses like Rupali Ganguly and Smriti Irani are an inspiration for her. She says, “Rupali Ganguly and Smriti Irani have carried their shows on their shoulders and their characters are amazing. To be in the same space as such iconic shows and actresses feels like a big honor. It motivates me to work harder every day.”
The actress further says that the emotional nature of “Vasudha” has connected with the audience. Thakur, who is paired opposite Abhishek Sharrma in the show, opines, “The character is strong but also very simple and relatable, which makes her special. Also, the relationships in the show feel genuine.”
Indian television often faces flak for promoting regressive female characters. Many viewers feel that there needs to be a change. Thakur endorses this view, saying that viewers want to see a real woman, not a perfect one. She says, “Today’s audience wants to see women who are strong, independent, and real. Not perfect, but human. I feel that a modern woman can be both emotional and strong at the same time. It is important to show that balance. As actors, we have a responsibility to present women in a way that feels true to today’s world. I am happy that storytelling is moving in that direction.”
