Parthiv Gohil: ‘The Success of ‘Laalo’ Opened New Doors for the Gujarati Film Industry’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Parthiv Gohil, who, along with his wife Manasi Parekh, had produced the 2025 Gujarati film “Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate,” was thrilled with the audience’s reaction to the film. Produced at a humble budget of ₹50 lakh, it went on to earn around ₹120 crore at the box office. The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival, where the team introduced new stories under their banner at the market. In a conversation with Variety India, Gohil discusses the impact of the film’s performance and his vision for the future of the Gujarati film industry.

Reflecting on the film’s success, Gohil believes its impact extends far beyond his own banner. He says, “Not only for us, but the success of ‘Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate’ has benefited the whole Gujarati industry and opened new doors for everyone. We have released the film in more than 40 countries. We are now really excited about our projects ‘Mitrata’ and ‘Adbhoot’ because with them we are introducing a lot of new talent. Both projects are ready for release and we can’t wait for people to see them.”

As both an artist and producer, Gohil also weighed in on the ongoing conversation around soaring production costs. “The budget of any project depends on the scale and the challenges. I always take this positively and do the reverse calculation of its recovery, not only from the box office but also from OTT, brand endorsements, and various types of associations. I try to make the project more cost-effective. Gujarati is the fastest-growing regional industry in terms of box office, the projects coming into the market and the talent. We are happy to be one of the leaders to create a difference in the content business.”
