Mohit Suri On Not Repeating The ‘Aashiqui 2’ Pair: Aditya Asked Me Why The Hell Are We Not Working Together Again? (EXCLUSIVE)
Mohit Suri, Aditya Roy Kapur, Shraddha Kapoor's "Aashiqui 2" has completed 13 years. Th filmmaker took to Instagram to share memories from the making of the movie. Over the years, it has sealed its place as one of the unforgettable romances to come out of Bollywood post 2010. Fans still remember the iconic duo of Rahul Jaykar (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Aarohi (Shraddha Kapoor) and the movie, a tale of music, love and loss. Over time, fans have longed to see the duo together in a romance.
Mohit Suri in a recent conversation with Variety India revealed why he did not make a sequel or another film with the same lead pair. He said he firmly believes that magic on celluloid can be created just once. He told us, “See, I think I was trying not to. I was trying not to repeat the magic because it never is the same. So, I was trying not to repeat Shraddha and Aditya after that because for me, Aashiqui, besides the sequel part of it, everything else was too special.”

It seems Aditya was keen to reunite with Suri for a film. He shares, “Aditya came to me and said we have not worked together after Aashiqui, what the hell, you’re working with everyone else. I have been such a friend of yours. I said, I’ll make an action film with you. I made Malang, which did well, but not a love story because I can’t beat Aashiqui for myself with him.”
He believes that even if a pairing has a soul one should not make it predictable for audiences. Suri is a firm believer in casting as per the script. He says, “I think you should be malleable when it comes down to what is right. I think, let’s be honest, let’s cast right for the film.” He feels it works better than seeking actors who meet the budget scale of the film.
Suri further explained that whenever he tried to make a project out of a film it tanked. “I have realized that whenever I have cast someone appropriate for the character, it has landed for me. And whenever I’ve tried to make a project, it hasn’t landed for me.”
In 2025, Mohit Suri delivered one of the biggest blockbusters of the year with "Saiyaara" starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. They have reunited for a new movie, "Satranga."
