Imran Khan is set to make a full-fledged comeback after a 11-year hiatus with “Adhure Hum Adhure Tum.” The Netflix romantic-comedy is directed by Danish Aslam, who previously collaborated with the actor for “Break Ke Baad.” As audiences await Imran’s return, Jehan Handa, who has co-written the film with Suhani Kanwar, shares, “I believe Danish Aslam and Imran have been close friends for years. They have shared a significant part of their lives together. So, I think Danish wrote the film keeping him in mind, drawing on his eccentricities, idiosyncrasies and small nuances in the character. And somewhere, Imran saw this as the perfect script to reach out to audiences who gave him all the love over the years. So, everyone waiting for him for years now will be very happy."

Jehan also revealed that Imran’s previous films and image influenced his character. “It would be very dishonest to pretend otherwise because I actually feel that the way he is the way his art is, the way his performances have been, the way he has played his roles. He has fun, youthfulness and playfulness and that's how the youth saw him, whether it was in ‘Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na,’ ‘Break Ke Baad’ or ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.’ It was a happy escape and I believe that people carry memories of actors just as they carry memories of people. So, with Imran Bhai, there is a very particular memory that an entire generation has of him -- the way he looks, the way he smiles, the way he plays his character. This script fits very well in that structure and he fits very well in this character. So, I feel he is tailor-made for ‘Adhure Hum Adhure Tum’ and the film is tailor-made for him.

He further explains what makes Khan a perfect fit for this film. “Imran has an incredible ability to communicate vulnerability without announcing it. There is a gentleness to him, but there is also something that feels very guarded. I think that combination was very important for his character. He was the heartthrob of a certain era, and for him to return, a certain kind of character, age and approach was needed. I feel Imran was able to comfortably slip into the skin of the character because it is very close to who he is in real life. He also has a dry sense of humor and a good-natured quality that audiences connect with. People look back at him with a lot of fondness. Everyone is calling this Imran’s comeback, but I feel he has always been there. This is simply the right script for him to reconnect with audiences,” concludes the writer.

“Adhure Hum Adhure Tum” also stars Bhumi Satish Pednekkar and Gurfateh Pirzada.
