Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha on Launching his Music Label: ‘It Took Me Almost Eight Years To Form It’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Director Anubhav Sinha, known for acclaimed movies like "Dus," "Mulk," "Thappad," and more, is now venturing into music. Speaking exclusively with Variety India, Sinha shares what prompted him to launch his own music label, "Benaras Beat." He also reveals that some songs are in the making and will be released soon.
About the new venture, Sinha shares that the idea had been in his mind for several years. Reflecting on his love for music and how the idea eventually took the form of a music label, he says, “There is a very interesting saying that if you want to do something and you don't do anything about it, then it's a dream, and if you want to do something and you do a lot about it, then it's an ambition. "Benaras Beat" was formed in my head and in the office about seven-eight years ago. I love music, so much so that three years back I started learning it. It's been my passion since childhood; there is music playing in my room all the time.”

He adds, “The idea germinated when I thought I would make music outside of films as well, but I could not set up a team. It started taking shape about a year back when I started working with a couple of composers; the whole team was set up, and now we have created some exclusive songs."
He is looking to go beyond directing and is learning more about music as he creates songs with his team. While Sinha focuses on finalizing the tracks he'll release from "Benaras Beats," the composers and other track details remain under wraps.
