‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Crosses $100 Million In Global Pre-Sales, Two Months Before Release

“Avengers: Doomsday” is already turning its December theatrical release into a box-office event, with the Marvel Studios tentpole reportedly crossing $100 million in global pre-sales more than two months before it arrives in cinemas. The latest figure comes from box-office tracker Global Box Office, which reported the milestone on October 6.

The number marks another escalation in the film’s unusually strong advance-ticket run. According to Global Box Office, “Avengers: Doomsday” has also become the fastest film to cross $1 million in pre-release ticket sales in both the UK and Brazil. The international momentum comes as Marvel continues to sell tickets well ahead of the film’s December 18 theatrical release.

The $100 million figure, however, should be treated as a reported tracker figure rather than a new studio-confirmed total. Disney’s last publicly disclosed number came in September, when CFO Hugh Johnston said that “Avengers: Doomsday” had crossed $50 million in domestic pre-sales, three months before its release. More than 70% of those sales were for Infinity Vision premium-format screenings.

The film’s advance run began with a sizeable opening for premium-format tickets. “Avengers: Doomsday” generated $16.5 million in its first 24 hours of Infinity Vision pre-sales across roughly 1,000 premium large-format locations in July. It subsequently became the first film to cross $40 million in domestic pre-sales with roughly 100 days still to go before its release.

The latest global milestone comes with “Avengers: Doomsday” still weeks away from its theatrical debut. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film brings together an enormous ensemble that includes Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and several other returning Marvel stars.

The scale of the cast is central to the film’s positioning. “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to bring heroes from three distinct universes onto a collision course with an existential threat, while Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU comes in the very different role of Doctor Doom rather than Tony Stark.

The timing of the advance sales is also notable. Marvel began selling premium-format tickets unusually early, giving “Doomsday” a much longer runway than most major releases. That makes the current $100 million figure an indicator of early demand rather than a straightforward predictor of its eventual opening weekend.

The film will also enter a crowded December 18 frame, sharing its release date with Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three”. “Doomsday” does not have IMAX access during the initial release window, with those screens committed to “Dune: Part Three”, prompting Disney to push its Infinity Vision premium format as an alternative.
