Winwin Exits NCT, NCT 127 and WayV After Ending SM Entertainment Contract

Winwin, the Chinese K-pop idol, has decided to depart from his team NCT as per an update on July 8. The mega group housed him across three units, NCT U, NCT 127 and WayV over the last decade. The singer-turned-actor was with SM Entertainment for 10 years and will be ending his tenure with them the following day, on Thursday.

“Hello, this is SM Entertainment.
We would like to sincerely thank all NCT fans for your continued love and unwavering support.
Following careful discussions with WINWIN, we have mutually agreed to conclude his exclusive contract, effective July 9. Accordingly, WINWIN will conclude all activities as a member of NCT.
We are deeply grateful to WINWIN, who has been with SM Entertainment for more than 10 years since his trainee days. We sincerely thank him for the time we have shared together and wholeheartedly support him as he embarks on a new journey.
Thank you.”

Later, Winwin’s personal studio, based in China, also shared an update in Mandarin on its social media account, confirming his exit and thanking the agency for its support. He further expressed his gratitude towards fellow NCT members and fans who were on this journey with him for the last 10 years. They maintained the stance that the decision to go their separate ways was made after friendly communication and mutual consultation. 

Winwin, real name Dong Si Cheng, debuted as an NCT member in 2016 and was a part of the NCT U and NCT 127 units till 2018 before being announced as a member of the NCT Chinese unit, WayV, in 2019. He has been furthering his acting career back home in the last few years, including dramas Sweet Games, Perfect Match, A Splendid Match, and Snow Fall. All set to appear next in the costume drama Qia Feng Chun, he is expected to continue acting.
