It may have been the final show of the night, beginning at 10 PM, but for Tarun Tahiliani’s loyal admirers, it was well worth the wait. Stepping away from predictable, high-energy runway presentations, Tasva’s Day 2 showcase at Lakmē Fashion Week unfolded as a beautifully curated celebration of nostalgia. As classic Hindi film tracks filled the air, senior male models took to the runway, transforming it into a heartfelt tribute to timeless style, multi-generational charm and exquisite craftsmanship.

A Vibrant Palette for the Modern Groom

The mood was undeniably festive, and the garments rose to the occasion. The tailoring was razor-sharp, with sleek dinner jackets in rich shades of dark maroon and bottle green, adorned with meticulous embroidery.

Tasva demonstrated its versatility with silhouettes suited to every wedding occasion. The collection moved seamlessly from striking wedding sherwanis featuring contemporary asymmetrical detailing to understated, sophisticated ensembles in a refreshing palette of ivory, lilac, salmon and jade.

Tasva Collection Highlights

The collection brought together a vibrant colour palette, intricate craftsmanship and versatile silhouettes. Rich shades of maroon and bottle green complemented softer hues of ivory, lilac, salmon and jade. Traditional techniques such as Aari embroidery, Zardozi and mirror work, along with delicate appliqué and pearl embellishments, added depth to the garments. The silhouettes ranged from sleek dinner jackets and asymmetrical sherwanis to formal silk kurtas, offering the modern groom options for celebrations across the wedding calendar.

Ageless Charm Takes Centre Stage

One of the most refreshing aspects of the evening was Tasva’s celebration of men across generations. The loudest applause of the night was reserved for two silver-haired, white-bearded models who confidently strode down the runway to the infectious rhythm of "Pyar Do, Pyar Lo".

It was a brilliant styling choice. Their contemporary yet age-appropriate looks, featuring formal silk kurtas and churidars paired with elegant, fluid stoles, proved that true style knows no age.

Ali Fazal, the showstopper, stole the spotlight with his charismatic presence in an off-white sherwani and an embroidered shawl that trailed effortlessly along the floor. He was accompanied by a woman dressed in a sari. With only two female models appearing in the entire show, the focus remained firmly on the menswear collection.

Balancing Heritage and Clean Modernity

At the heart of the collection was Tahiliani’s signature devotion to fine craftsmanship. The garments showcased traditional Indian techniques, including Aari embroidery, Zardozi and mirror work, elevated by delicate appliqué and pearl embellishments. Despite the intricate detailing, the execution remained remarkably restrained, with the embellishments complementing the garments rather than overwhelming them.

What truly set the collection apart was its balance. The designs embraced theatricality while remaining anchored in clean lines and contemporary silhouettes. Watching the collection unfold was a sensory experience akin to seeing a classic black-and-white film gradually blossom into full, vibrant colour.

The Evolution of the Indian Wedding Wardrobe

The show navigated the fine line between the opulence of Indian festive attire and the versatility required by the modern man. The soundtrack added a playful juxtaposition to the proceedings. Models in understated yet sophisticated ensembles glided down the runway as the late Bappi Lahiri’s iconic track "Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re" filled the room.

The collection reflected the evolving landscape of contemporary Indian weddings, where personal preferences increasingly dictate the transition between understated luxury and bold statement dressing. By offering a range of colours, silhouettes and levels of embellishment, Tasva presented a wardrobe that caters to different occasions while allowing individual style to take centre stage.

In the Designer’s Words

Reflecting on the collection’s vision, Tarun Tahiliani said:

"At Tasva, our approach has always been to make Indian occasion wear feel relevant to the way men dress and celebrate today. This collection brings together the beauty of traditional craftsmanship with a more contemporary understanding of silhouette, comfort, and individuality... We wanted to create a wardrobe that allows the modern groom to celebrate his heritage while expressing his own personality."

The Verdict

Tasva’s latest showcase was a celebration of heritage reimagined for the modern groom. By bringing together traditional craftsmanship, contemporary silhouettes and a refreshing celebration of men across generations, Tahiliani presented a collection that balances grandeur with wearability. The result is a versatile wedding wardrobe that embraces both understated elegance and statement-making occasion wear.
