Shahid Rafi on the Use of AI and Technology to Keep Mohammed Rafi’s Legacy Alive: ‘It Can Introduce Him to Younger Generations’

As conversations around artificial intelligence and digital resurrection continue to reshape the entertainment industry, Shahid Rafi believes technology can play a meaningful role in introducing legendary voices to younger audiences, if it is done with care and authenticity.

Speaking about the vision behind the Mohammed Rafi Academy and its collaboration with Eros Innovation, Shahid Rafi says the primary objective remains the preservation and celebration of the singer's legacy.

“The vision of the Mohammed Rafi Academy has always been to keep my father's legacy alive and ensure that future generations continue to connect with his music and values. We are extremely happy to be collaborating with Eros Innovation because they have the vision of preserving culture through responsible innovation. What gives us confidence is that they are approaching this with respect, authenticity and a genuine commitment to protecting my father's legacy while using new technologies to introduce his music to younger audiences around the world."

Asked about the possibility of using technologies such as holograms and immersive experiences to recreate concert experiences for younger audiences, Shahid Rafi says he remains open to the idea as long as the intention remains respectful.

"I think if technology is being used respectfully and with the right intention, it can be a beautiful way to introduce legends like my father to younger generations. That is why I appreciate the work Eros Innovation is doing. Their approach is about preserving and celebrating his legacy in a responsible and authentic way. Whether through immersive experiences, AI or holograms, if it helps new audiences discover Mohammed Rafi Saab while remaining true to who he was, then I believe it can be something very meaningful."

For Shahid Rafi, however, Mohammed Rafi's legacy extends far beyond his unparalleled musical achievements.

"He was not only one of the greatest artists India has ever seen, but also an incredible human being. For me, he was like a saint. A humble, pure-hearted, and deeply respected person by everyone around him."

The singer's son says it was not only Mohammed Rafi's artistry that inspired him, but also the values he embodied away from the spotlight.

"What inspired me most was his simplicity and humanity. Despite achieving so much success, he remained extremely humble and grounded throughout his life. He treated everyone equally and never let fame change him as a person. He believed in kindness, generosity and always helping others quietly without expecting recognition. Those values are something I deeply admire and continue to carry with me even today."

Shahid Rafi also believes there is immense potential in exploring Mohammed Rafi's extraordinary life on screen. "I think a biopic on my father would be wonderful because his journey is extremely inspiring. People know him as a legendary singer, but I would want them to see the human side of him. His life was never about fame, it was about passion and sincerity."
