‘Sarpatta Parambarai: Round 2’ Goes On Floors; Pa. Ranjith Returns To Direct, Arya Reprises His Role
“Sarpatta Parambarai: Round 2” has officially gone on floors, with Pa. Ranjith returning to direct and Arya reprising his role from the 2021 film. The actor shared the latest update on Monday, September 28, with a new poster from the makers carrying the line, “The origin of Sarpatta Parambarai begins.”
The latest announcement also marks the first clear indication that the new film will explore the origins of the world established in “Sarpatta Parambarai”.
Ranjith had previously remained tight-lipped about whether the film would be a sequel or prequel, saying in 2025 that he was interested in exploring a different era while retaining the boxing and character elements audiences connected with in the first film. The new poster now points to the story being set before the events of the original.

The original “Sarpatta Parambarai”, released directly on Prime Video in July 2021, followed Kabilan (Arya), a young boxer from North Chennai who gets drawn into the rivalry between the Sarpatta and Idiyappa boxing clans. Set against the boxing culture and political landscape of 1970s Madras, the film featured Pasupathy, Dushara Vijayan, John Kokken, Kalaiyarasan and Shabeer Kallarakkal alongside Arya.

“Round 2” was first announced in March 2023, with Arya’s original announcement poster teasing Kabilan’s return. Production was subsequently delayed as Ranjith completed “Vettuvam”. Arya had said in October 2025 that the second instalment would begin after the completion of “Vettuvam”, which has now happened.
Beyond Ranjith and Arya, the makers have not yet officially announced the complete cast, plot details or technical crew for “Sarpatta Parambarai: Round 2”. The new update therefore marks the film’s return to production while keeping its larger story under wraps.
