‘Pegasus 3’: All You Need to Know About the No.1 Worldwide Grosser of 2026
The just-concluded first quarter of 2026 has given us several global blockbusters that have done great business at the box office. While films like “Project Hail Mary,” “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” “Hoppers” and “Wuthering Heights” have been major successes at the ticket windows, it is ‘Pegasus 3,’ a Chinese film, that has emerged as the biggest hit of the year. Here’s what you need to know about it.
The third installment of the sports comedy franchise
“Pegasus 3” is the third part of the franchise after “Pegasus” (2019) and “Pegasus 2” (2024). It features the ensemble cast of Shen Teng, Yin Zheng, Huang Jingyu, Zhang Benyu, Wei Xiang, Sha Yi, Fan Chengcheng, Sun Yizhou and Duan Yihong in prominent roles, with the lead characters reprising their roles. The film is directed by Han Han, who also helmed the previous two parts.

The latest installment, which is the continuation of character Zhang Chi’s life and life struggles (reprised by Shen Teng), has entered the top 10 list of the highest-grossing Chinese films of all time.
With a figure of $640,986,686, it is currently the worldwide highest grosser of the year. Interestingly, the previous two parts also emerged as money spinners during their theatrical run, with collections of $422,878,491 (“Pegasus 2”) and $255,863,112 (“Pegasus”), respectively.
“Pegasus 3” has surpassed the Brad Pitt-starrer “F1” ($634,042,436) to emerge as one of the highest-grossing sports dramas of all time.
The plot
“Pegasus 3” follows Zhang Chi (Shen Teng), the racing champion, who returns to the Bayanbulak Rally with a new team and competes with the new international strong drivers. To emerge as a champion, Zhang has to rely on his experience and leadership to overcome difficulties and challenges.
The film, written by Han Han, Zhou Yunhai and Meng Wenyou and released on February 17, has music composed by Roc Chen.
