‘Khat’ Singer Navjot Ahuja’s New Romantic Ballad ‘Aankhein’ Is An Exploration Of The Intense Emotions Of Love (EXCLUSIVE)
Indie singer-songwriter Navjot Ahuja returns with his latest track, "Aankhein," a deeply personal song inspired by an evening that stayed with him. Over the years, Ahuja has carved a space for himself with songwriting rooted in personal experiences and emotions that connect with listeners. He is known for his breakout song, “Khat," that has 400 million views. His new song, "Aankhein" is available for streaming starting today.
Ahuja shares with Variety India, “There’s happiness in love, and there’s sorrow in love, both felt with a depth and intensity that you may have never experienced before. The song moves between happiness and sorrow with the same emotional intensity, before arriving at its closing line, bringing the two emotions together through the very eyes that inspired the song."
He further highlights this in the lyrics that ocillate between the euphoria of love and the vulnerability that comes with it. Ahuja says, “That’s also why the song ends with a philosophical 'Maut dikhi aur dikh gayi zindagi, jab dekhi humne aankhein teri’ (I have seen life and death, when I looked into your eyes).
He also details the inspiration behind “Aankhein,” saying, “It started in the most ordinary way. I had cooked dinner for her (his love interest), we were sitting on the bed with the frying pan between us.”

The first line of the song goes, “Shaam dhale, chal ghar chale, tere liye hum khana banaaye. Aa ghar chale, baith ke phir, haathon se hum apne khilaaye. (It is evening, let us go home and let me cook for you and feed you with my own hands).” Ahuja shares, “I’ve never really been fond of cooking, but I would often cook for her. So those lines come from a very personal place.”
The second line goes, “Ye zindagi pehli dafa lagi haseen, jab bahaane se mujhe tu chhoone lagi. (This life seemed beautiful for the first time when you began to touch me on some pretext or the other).”
The singer adds, “It’s about that phase when they start getting a little touchy in the middle of conversations. You notice it, but you don’t say anything. Instead, you just smile a little more and let the moment be. Those butterflies.”
His previous single, “Khat” crossed 400 million streams and inspired over 1.1 million Instagram Reel creations. The singer believes in creating music that is true to his feelings rather than cater to what is in trend.
