‘Karuppu’ Release Delayed: Film Expected To Hit Screens May 15
The newly sworn-in Tamil Nadu government had given approval for the statewide morning shows of Suriya and Trisha Krishnan’s “Karuppu” directed by RJ Balaji, originally due to release today (May 14). These as well as noon shows were then canceled, owing to “financial issues.” The film’s producer S.R. Prabhu confirmed this via an X post earlier today. There were reports saying that in the US, not only the morning shows, but shows for the weekend were also cancelled.
The ‘financial issues’
Reports suggest the film’s release might proceed only if a financial settlement worth nearly Rs 50 crore owed to a financier is resolved. It is learnt that Suriya has intervened to resolve the pending payment and has taken upon himself the responsibility to release the movie.
Earlier today, director RJ Balaji posted an emotional video on social media. In the video, he apologized to fans, saying. “You all travelled from afar to watch the movie… sorry for the delay. Sorry for making you go through all this stress. But it’ll all be worth it when the film releases…”.
Balaji also said that Suriya has helped whenever the movie faced issues.

When contacted, Suresh Shenoy, owner of Kochi-based Shenoys Cinemas says. “We have cancelled all the shows for today. We have received an update that the makers will let us know about the release only by 7 pm today. However, we have opened the bookings for tomorrow. If the release doesn't happen, a refund will be processed.”
The latest update, domestically, comes via the country’s largest theatre chain PVR-Inox, who has announced that the film would release on May 15.
Fans disappointed
The sudden cancellation of the shows has left fans disappointed. Speculations were raised after there were no bookings for the movie listed on ticketing platforms.
In neighbouring state Kerala, the situation is the same, as confirmed by the exhibitors’ social media handles.
“Karuppu” features Suriya and Trisha as the lead actors and the movie is expected to be a mass entertainer where the protagonist fights for justice. The movie also features Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, Supreeth Reddy and Yogi Babu.
