‘Jailer 2’ vs. ‘OM’: Rajinikanth Starrer Hits Full Throttle with New Promos, While Uncertainty Looms Over Dhanush’s film (EXCLUSIVE)
Tamil cinema has been bracing for the clash of two big films - Rajinikanth’s “Jailer 2” and Dhanush’s “OM Chapter 1: Udhiram - The Blood Wood” clashing for the big pooja weekend. But it’s now becoming clear that the much-awaited clash may be averted.
In the latest update, “Jailer 2” has officially locked October 15 as the release date and has already kick-started its promotional blitz. “OM” posters also mention October 16 as the release date, but the producers have not officially confirmed it — and there has been no movement on marketing and publicity for the Dhanush-starrer.

Industry sources suggest that “OM” has been pushed to November, with an official announcement pending. Only the digital rights have been sold so far, while the theatrical release date is yet to be firmed up.
“Jailer 2,” meanwhile, has sold theatrical and other rights, giving it a big advantage among Tamil Nadu exhibitors, who are ready to offer the film prime showcasing. The trade pundits point out that the first film to own the narrative usually owns the weekend — and the screens.
It is learned that Rajinikanth is keen on a UA certificate for “Jailer 2,” despite the film being said to be extremely violent. A UA could bring in family audiences, which will amp up the box office collections during the lucrative pooja weekend. The ‘A’ certificate given to Rajinikanth’s “Coolie,” directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, dented its opening as family audiences stayed away. The actor does not want a repeat of that.
A source reveals that “OM” could now land on November 27 or December 2, with its OTT partner giving the green signal. That would push the release to three weeks after Diwali, when big-budget epics “Ramayana” and Suriya’s “Scene” are scheduled, while also leaving a likely two-week gap before Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday” arrives on December 18.
Meanwhile, Sun Pictures has shifted the promotional campaign of “Jailer 2” into top gear. When fans expected routine character-introduction posters, the producers went one step further — rolling out full-blown character-introduction videos! The response has been phenomenal. The first three reveals — featuring Suraj Venjaramoodu, SJ Suryah and Vidya Balan — have clocked millions of views and generated massive buzz. And these aren’t even the film’s main lead reveals yet!
