‘Jailer 2’ Changes The Rajinikanth Promotion Playbook: No Grand Audio Launch, 3-Hour TV Special Instead
By Sakshi Navare,
“Jailer 2” is taking a noticeably different route with its final promotional push. Rather than staging the kind of large-scale audio launch that has become closely associated with Rajinikanth’s films, the makers are opting for a more contained music event followed by a rare three-hour television conversation with the superstar.
The special interview is scheduled for October 11 on Sun TV, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm, just four days before “Jailer 2” opens worldwide on October 15. The move puts Rajinikanth himself at the centre of the film’s final pre-release campaign, replacing an evening built around a large cast-and-crew event with an extended conversation featuring the star.
The decision is particularly notable because Rajinikanth’s audio launches have traditionally functioned as major promotional events in their own right. His speeches often become talking points beyond the immediate film campaign, while live musical performances and the presence of the cast and crew turn the occasion into a large-scale fan event.

“Jailer 2” has instead kept its album launch relatively low-key. The film’s music was unveiled through “Jailer 2 RAVE”, an event for selected fans where composer Anirudh Ravichander and the singers performed tracks from the soundtrack. The complete jukebox features 12 songs, including “Hukum Reloaded”, “Bindaas”, “Jailer Theme” and “One Name”.
The three-hour television appearance then becomes the larger promotional set piece. Its timing also gives the makers one final opportunity to put Rajinikanth directly in front of audiences before the theatrical release, with the sequel arriving during the Dussehra period.
The strategy comes as “Jailer 2” enters its final stretch with the film’s theatrical campaign already gathering momentum. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel brings Rajinikanth back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the retired jailer at the centre of the 2023 blockbuster “Jailer”.
The sequel expands the ensemble considerably, with Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff, S. J. Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Ramya Krishnan among the cast. Anirudh Ravichander returns as composer, while Sun Pictures has backed the film.
The film has also now completed its certification process and has been certified UA 16+, with a final runtime of 165 minutes. “Jailer 2” is set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 15.
For a film led by one of Indian cinema’s biggest theatrical stars, the promotional choice is an interesting one. “Jailer 2” is not doing away with the fan-facing spectacle altogether, but it is changing where the spectacle sits. Instead of a massive audio launch giving Rajinikanth a few minutes on stage, the campaign is giving the superstar three hours on television, days before he returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
