Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’ is shaping up to be an even bigger and more action-packed follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster. The upcoming Nelson Dilipkumar directorial has received a UA 16+ certificate and will have a runtime of 2 hours and 45 minutes, giving audiences plenty of time with Tiger Muthuvel Pandian when the superstar returns to the big screen.

The certification is particularly notable given the franchise’s blend of violence, action and dark humour. While the original ‘Jailer’ balanced its more intense sequences with comedy and mass moments, the sequel appears to be pushing the scale further. The trailer already hints at a bloodier and more dangerous outing, with Rajinikanth’s Tiger caught up in a new conflict involving multiple enemies.

‘Jailer 2’ also expands the franchise’s ensemble. The film brings back members of the original cast while adding several prominent names, including Vidya Balan, Vijay Sethupathi and SJ Suryah. The trailer also features Mohanlal looking menacing in shades and long hair, while Mithun Chakraborty is also part of the film’s star-studded cast.

Nelson returns as director with Rajinikanth reprising his role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. Anirudh Ravichander is also back on music, ensuring that the sequel retains the energetic sound and larger-than-life presentation associated with the first film.

With a 2-hour-45-minute runtime and a UA 16+ certificate, ‘Jailer 2’ looks set to give Rajinikanth plenty of room to unleash Tiger Muthuvel Pandian once again. If the trailer is anything to go by, the sequel is aiming for more action, more chaos and, above all, more Rajinikanth.
