Jailer 2’ Trailer: Apeksha Porwal Brings Pageantry, Kathak and Action to Rajinikanth’s World
By Sakshi Navare,
Apeksha Porwal’s appearance in the "Jailer 2" trailer lasts only moments, but it is enough to make her stand out. In a preview packed with Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Vidya Balan, Muthu Pandian’s returning allies and a host of new faces, Porwal gets one of the trailer’s more physically charged glimpses, appearing in an action sequence that has left viewers curious about the actor behind it.
What makes the moment particularly interesting is the trajectory that has brought Porwal to Nelson Dilipkumar’s Rajinikanth-led sequel. Her background is rooted in pageantry, classical dance and theatre, before she moved into screen acting and began building a career across digital series and films. "Jailer 2" now places her inside one of the most high-profile Tamil franchises of the year.
Porwal first made her mark in pageantry. She won the Miss India Delhi title in 2015 and had earlier been crowned Miss Teen India International in 2009. In 2017, she finished as the second runner-up at Miss Diva, the pageant that selected India’s representative for Miss Universe that year. She subsequently moved her focus increasingly towards acting, a transition she had begun preparing for even before her pageant career took off.

Acting was not an afterthought for Porwal. She trained in method acting at the Jeff Goldberg Studio in Mumbai through a nine-month diploma programme and also trained under actors and acting teachers including Neeraj Kabi and Atul Mongia. Her early performance work included theatre, with credits including "Deranged Marriage" and an adaptation of Luigi Pirandello’s "Six Characters in Search of an Author".
Her screen debut came with "Undekhi", the 2020 SonyLIV series directed by Ashish R Shukla, in which she played Koyal. She had also appeared in Anand Tiwari’s "Imperfect", before continuing to build credits across screen and theatre.
Dance has remained another important part of her performing background. Porwal is trained in Kathak, adding a classical discipline to the physical vocabulary that now gets a brief showcase in "Jailer 2". Her action credentials extend beyond dance as well, with training in martial arts including kickboxing and nunchucks.
The trailer does not reveal the identity or backstory of Porwal’s "Jailer 2" character, nor does it establish how significant her role will be in the film. That restraint makes the glimpse more intriguing rather than less. She is seen participating in the film’s action-heavy world, but the larger context of the sequence remains under wraps.
The opportunity also arrives as "Jailer 2" expands the world created by Nelson and Rajinikanth in the 2023 blockbuster "Jailer". Rajinikanth returns as retired jailer Muthuvel Pandian, with the sequel bringing back several members of the original cast while adding actors including Vidya Balan, Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Mithun Chakraborty and Suraj Venjaramoodu. Anirudh Ravichander returns as composer, with Sun Pictures producing the film.
For Porwal, the significance of "Jailer 2" lies less in the few seconds she gets in the trailer than in what those seconds represent. The former pageant contestant who trained in Kathak and method acting, worked in theatre and made her screen debut with a digital series is now part of a Rajinikanth action spectacle. What exactly Nelson has in store for her remains one of the film’s unanswered questions.
