Talks to Have BTS Headline Coachella 2027 Fall Through, Dua Lipa and Tame Impala Being Considered

BTS has long been a favorite for headlining the American music festival, Coachella. Ahead of its 2027 announcement, multiple names are being thrown around as possible considerations for its headlining acts. Previously, US trade publication HITS Daily Double reported that the septet was being “heavily wooed” for a possible appearance. Australian rock group Tame Impala, pop star Dua Lipa and EDM superstar Fred Again… were among the others being discussed. Now, they have shared an update claiming that negotiation talks with the group have gone downhill, making it unlikely that they will be a part of the lineup for 2027.

Being one of the most in-demand singers at the moment, the K-Pop boy group’s members have appeared as solo headliners at other music festivals. J-Hope closed out Lollapalooza in Chicago back in July 2022. At the time, he became the first South Korean artist to headline a main stage at a major U.S. music festival. He later returned to the namesake festival’s Berlin edition in July 2025, after returning from his military service.

The group recently performed at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Festival in September as one of the headliners amid their ongoing ARIRANG World Tour. BTS returned to it 6 years after first appearing in the lineup.

K-Pop at Coachella

Following earlier appearances from hip-hop acts EE in 2011 and Epik High in 2016, BLACKPINK made their historical headliner appearance as the first-ever K-pop girl group to perform at the desert back in 2019. Since then, 2NE1’s on-stage reunion, BLACKPINK’s return, ATEEZ’s first male group performance, followed by LE SSERAFIM’s appearance and alternative/indie band The Rose’s stage have made it a hotspot. In 2025, Lisa and Jennie set up solo attendance at the music festival. The 2026 Coachella was a big moment for Korean music fans with BIGBANG’s 20th anniversary performance, SHINee’s Taemin making history as the first Korean male solo artist at the festival and KATSEYE’s debut.
