While August emerged as the biggest month of the year for the Indian box office, September is expected to continue the momentum. The first week is expected to start on a promising note with multiple releases across genres, with the key players being “Mirzapur: The Movie” and Dulquer Salmaan-starrer “I’m Game.”

“Mirzapur: The Movie” has already set a benchmark as the first Hindi web series to be adapted into a theatrical feature. The series' popularity is translating into strong advance bookings, with the film expected to register a double-digit opening.

According to analytics platform Recobee.AI, the film is expected to earn ₹13 crore on its opening day — a strong number for a project without an A-list star. While the pre-sales response has been positive, it faces pressure to live up to fans' expectations and maintain momentum at the ticket windows.

Dulquer Salmaan’s “I’m Game” marks the actor’s return to Malayalam cinema as a lead after three years. His last release, “King of Kotha” (2023), was a box-office disappointment despite registering a strong opening. Interestingly, despite being regarded by fans as the ‘Prince of Malayalam cinema’, Dulquer Salmaan’s biggest opener is a Telugu film, “Lucky Baskhar,” which earned ₹7.35 crore on its opening day, including paid previews. With “I’m Game” getting a solo release and a good number of screens, the film is now aiming to surpass "Lucky Baskhar" and revive Dulquer’s box-office glory in his home state, Kerala. Directed by Nahas Hidhayath, “I’m Game” also stars Kayadu Lohar in a prominent role.

Among the other releases, the Hindi release “Jeevan Bheema Yojana” and “Romanchakam” (Telugu) are expected to secure a decent number of screens. However, both films will rely heavily on positive word of mouth for successful theatrical runs.
