‘Vishwanath And Sons’ Choreographer Vijay Binni On ‘Pattampoochi’s Comparisons To KATSEYE’s ‘Gabriela’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Suriya and Mamitha Baiju’s “Vishwanath And Sons” is one of the big releases of August 2026. The film’s song “Pattampoochi” has Baiju showing off some cool dance moves choreographed by Vijay Binni (S Vijay Prakash). Many viewers who saw the video felt the choreography resembled that of “Gabriela,” the song by the global girl group KATSEYE. Viewers who follow the girl group even made edits about the same.

Choreographer Vijay Binni tells Variety India, “Yes, I have seen the edits, but I was not surprised. The choreography for “Pattampoochi” is entirely our creation. I feel that whatever you do, people, at times, focus on something and discuss it. I also choreographed ‘Aaya Sher’ for Nani’s movie ‘The Paradise,’ and people found some Rajasthani elements in the dance.”

He admits he knows about KATSEYE but has not watched the entire music video of “Gabriela.” The song features Lara Raj, Manon Bannerman, Sophia Laforteza, Daniel Avanzini, Jeong Yoon-chae and Megan Skiendiel in a unique music video filmed like a telenovela.

There is also an official dance performance in which the aforementioned dance step features more prominently. “I know which move they’re talking up, but it is something we have done in the past. It is not new,” Binni says.

Praising the lead pair, Mamitha Baiju and Suriya, he shares, “Baiju is super energetic and easy to work with. I am a huge fan of Suriya and have learned a lot from him. He is a thorough gentleman.”

Binni shares a close friendship with Venky Atluri, the director of Vishwanath and Sons, with whom he previously collaborated on “Vaathi,” starring Dhanush. He is currently adding finishing touches to the script for his second directorial venture, a full-fledged South Indian masala entertainer. “I am writing the last part of the script. Once done, I will pitch it to some big actors from the industry,” he signs off.
