Vijay Varma is booked and busy. After “Gustaakh Ishq” with Fatima Sana Shaikh in late 2025, he met the audience as Brij Bhatti with “Matka King” earlier this year, which recently earned him a Best Performance award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. With several other ventures due in the next couple of years, he is set to play the leading man in film and on streaming.

Of the projects, “Antony,” a high-octane action thriller starring Sunny Deol, will have Varma in an antagonist’s role that went on floors in Mumbai on February 27. Varma confirmed its schedule in an exclusive conversation with Variety India, “As per the plan shared with me, we should be done filming by September. I have some sequences left to shoot for “Antony” with Excel [Entertainment] and Sunny paaji. That is something that I'm going to be shooting once I'm back [from Australia].”

While not delving much into the details of the project, Varma shares why he decided to accept the role, “It's just an interesting premise for me because I don't remember doing something like this. And secondly, it's an opportunity to work with somebody whose movie I went and whistled at and enjoyed so much. Excel and I have been working together for some time now since “Gully Boy”. It's like coming home for me. And with a very interesting young director from the South called Balaji [Ganesh]. So I'm actually having great fun.”

His other upcoming projects include “Family Business” alongside Anil Kapoor, “Lust Stories 3,” in which he stars in a segment directed by Vikramaditya Motwane starring Radhika Apte and Konkona Sen Sharma, “Matka King 2,” which was confirmed a few months ago and some unannounced projects in the pipeline, including an untitled Netflix production.
