The box office performance of “Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups” highlights how negative word-of-mouth can impact a film despite its star-studded cast. After witnessing a massive 64% drop on its second day, the period gangster actioner declined further on Day Three, earning just ₹27.20 crore.

With a total collection of ₹165.95 crore, the film is expected to cross the ₹200 crore mark during its extended five-day opening weekend. Of its total collections, the Hindi-dubbed version has contributed ₹99 crore, followed by the original Kannada version, which has added ₹36.80 crore.

With such a drastic decline in day-wise collections, it will be an uphill task for “Toxic” to maintain a steady hold at the box office on weekdays. Going by the current scenario, the Yash-starrer is heading toward becoming a major box-office disappointment, potentially joining the ranks of films such as “Thugs of Hindostan,” “Zero” and “War 2.”

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, known for “Liar’s Dice” and “Moothon,” the film also stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Sudev Nair, Akshay Oberoi and Darrell D’Silva, among others. Shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, the film is bankrolled by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under the banners of KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations LLP.

The film is edited by Ujwal Kulkarni, who also edited “KGF 2.” Rajeev Ravi, husband of director Geetu Mohandas, served as its director of photography. The songs have been composed by Vishal Mishra, Ravi Basrur, Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami.

With “Toxic” emerging as a box-office disappointment, “Mirzapur: The Film,” which arrives on September 4, will now have the benefit of more screens and shows.
