Sudip Sharma on Approaching Barun Sobti For ‘Babita Singh Reporting’: ‘He Didn’t Even Read the Script’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Showrunner Sudip Sharma is behind emotionally driven stories rooted in crime and high-stakes thrills. Films like “Udta Punjab,” where he worked on the dialogues and OTT shows like “Paatal Lok” and “Kohrra” have made him a name to reckon with. His latest project, “Babita Singh Reporting,” (BSR) brings forth the story of a female police officer who takes matters into her own hands while investigating the murder of her childhood friend, Bansi (Barun Sobti).
The new series has Nimisha Sajayan portray the classic Indian woman, full of grit, ambition and anger. The storyline kicks into gear with the death of Bansi and how she hunts down the real killer while being undermined by everyone around her. This is Sharma’s second time working with Sobti, after two seasons of “Kohrra.”

During a chat with Variety India, Sudip Sharma, who also serves as the executive producer on “BSR,” shares how he roped in the 42-year-old Sobti to portray the role of Bansi. He notes, “It was wonderful as always when you're working with Barun. There's a great relationship that we share both at work and outside of work and it was very smooth. We just happened to mention that we are doing this film and we would love for him to be a part of it, that it's a special appearance and he just came on board instantly. There wasn’t even a discussion. He didn't even read the script and it was mighty kind of him to do that.”

The 2 hour 24 minute project showcases the actor for a handful of moments despite him being at the core of the plot. Sharma and Sobti are set to reunite for a third time for the upcoming dark comedy series “Pushpak Viman,” in which he will be joined by actors Jaideep Ahlawat and Abhishek Banerjee.
