Subhash Ghai, Mithoon Announce Grand Concert Arena Experience, Set Date For December In Mumbai (EXCLUSIVE)
They’ve never worked together before but filmmaker Subhash Ghai and music composer Mithoon just announced a new concert, ‘Kya Zamaana Tha: Subhash Ghai’s Musical Legacy Reimagined By Mithoon.’ A collaboration between Mukta Arts and EVA Live, the first showcase is on Dec. 11, 2026 at Jio World Garden in Mumbai.
Named after the iconic opening monologue from Karz’s immortal track “Ek Haseena Thi,” the concert anchors its identity in the foundational roots of Ghai’s cinematic universe. Positioning itself as being “far from a conventional tribute or standard retrospective,” the concert wants to position classic Hindi film music with the same stadium-level box office clout typically reserved for international pop tours. The organisers say that audiences can expect a premium spectacle that blends nostalgia with 70-member orchestra and state-of-the-art live production design. Ghai’s best known soundtracks – everything from “Karz,” “Hero,” “Ram Lakhan,” “Khalnayak,” “Pardes,” “Taal” and “Yaadein” will come alive on a grand and immersive scale for the first time.

Legendary singers, iconic actors and personalities associated with Ghai’s film will join Mithoon and Ghai on stage, allowing the audience to get a glimpse into the making of the masterpieces through live conversations and behind-the-scenes anecdotes, something one doesn’t get to usually see in retrospectives.
Mithoon’s father Naresh Sharma, was a legendary arranger and conductor, while his uncle, Pyarelal (of the immortal Laxmikant–Pyarelal duo), composed the soundtracks of Ghai’s biggest blockbusters. Marking his return to this iconic catalog with a deeply personal connection, Mithoon hopes to bring a fresh live perspective to the songs while retaining the scale, emotion and orchestral richness associated with the original era.
Mithoon calls the concert a “deeply personal, spiritual journey" and adds, “I grew up listening to and observing the iconic soundtracks of Subhash Ghaiji created by the legendary Laxmikant Pyarelalji. That sound shaped a major part of who I am as a composer. To take this legendary catalog and reimagine it for a modern live stage is an immense responsibility and an absolute honour. He reveals that they will be “recreating an entire era with a massive live orchestra and modern sensibilities,” promising that “‘Kya Zamaana Tha’ will give audiences the chance to experience these timeless masterpieces at an unprecedented scale.”
Calling his films’ music “the very soul of my storytelling,” he maintains, “To see the songs from my films continue to resonate with millions, even decades later, is an experience I find deeply humbling. ‘Kya Zamaana Tha’ is not about looking back, but about celebrating art that continues to live on.” Elaborating on his collaboration with Mithoon, he says, “ Mithoon comes from a remarkable musical heritage and he understands the soul and spirit of this music. Watching him reimagine these timeless melodies fills me with immense pride and confidence that they are in the finest hands.

On conceptualising the concert, Deepak Choudhary, Founder & Managing Director, EVA Live states that the intention was to create a production that would “serve as an uncompressed analog revival… unleashing them in full glory across a massive open-air arena for city music lovers.”
