‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ To Get Theatrical Re-Release With Extra Footage, Rosario Dawson’s Deleted Scene Among Additions
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is getting another theatrical run. Variety India has learnt that Sony Pictures is planning to re-release the Tom Holland-led Marvel film with additional footage, following the recent theatrical return of “Avengers Endgame: Encore”. Deadline first reported the development.
The re-release will include previously unseen material, with Rosario Dawson’s deleted scene as Claire Temple among the footage being considered. Dawson had revealed in August that she filmed a scene for the film but was ultimately cut from the theatrical version. The scene reportedly featured Claire treating Peter Parker after his fight with Scorpion.
The additional footage will not be limited to Dawson’s appearance, according to Deadline, with further surprises expected to be included. Sony has not yet announced when the new version will return to cinemas.

The move comes shortly after Marvel Studios re-released “Avengers: Endgame” as “Avengers: Endgame: Encore”, adding new material to the 2019 blockbuster. The re-release opened to $86 million worldwide, according to Deadline, providing the latest example of a major studio using additional footage to bring an already successful theatrical title back to cinemas.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, stars Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Florence Pugh and Mark Ruffalo. The film opened in Indian cinemas on July 30, a day ahead of its US release, and was released in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
Dawson’s Claire Temple, a character she previously played across “Daredevil”, “Jessica Jones”, “Luke Cage”, “Iron Fist” and “The Defenders”, was ultimately removed from the theatrical cut. Screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers later explained that the scene was cut largely for runtime and pacing despite being well received creatively.
