Director Ahn Pan Seok has passed away at the age of 64 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. Earlier last month, it was reported that the famed creator collapsed due to a cerebral hemorrhage and was hospitalized for treatment. The news of his demise comes amid the completion of his drama “Romance Expert” starring Choo Young Woo and Kim So Hyun.

The production team of ENA’s upcoming series “Romance Expert” (literal title) shared an official statement reading, as per Sports Chosun, “We are heartbroken to share this tragic news. Director Ahn Pan Seok passed away on August 12, 2026, at the age of 64. We are sharing this news at the request of the bereaved family. As the family is currently in deep grief and wishes to have a quiet farewell with the deceased, we sincerely ask for your cooperation in keeping the funeral proceedings private from the press. Once again, we express our deepest condolences. May he rest in peace.”

It is known that the filming and editing process of the show has been completed, and it will become his last project, set to air in October this year. To be released posthumously, “Romance Expert” is the love story between a swimmer named Park Min Jae who loses one leg due to an illness and Im Yoo Jin, who loses her career path and takes on the new road of becoming a graduate student.
Ahn Pan Seok’s other works include popular romance K-Dramas “Something in the Rain,” “One Spring Night,” and “The Midnight Romance in Hagwon.”
