Prosenjit, Subhashree Ganguly, Jisshu Sengupta At The Mahurat Of ‘Abhhiman’; Indraadip Das Gupta Talks About His Stellar Cast (EXCLUSIVE)
The mahurat of “Abhhiman” took place in Kolkata today at the historic New Theatres Studio (NT1) in Tollygunge, Kolkata. It was a hotspot for film shoots in the 1990s and this mahurat took the cast back on a nostalgic trip. Filmmaker Indraadip Das Gupta has brought together the stellar trio of Prosenjit, Subhashree Ganguly and Jisshu Sengupta. All of them were dressed in white for the opening shot of the movie. This is the first time that Prosenjit and Subhashree have come together for a movie. Jisshu Sengupta and Prosenjit have done a lot of projects in the past.

Talking to Variety India, filmmaker Indraadip Das Gupta said, “Abhhiman,” is all about human emotions. Whether it is love, liking, affection, jealousy, ego, everything in Bengali is called ‘Abhimaan’. It is also about coming back to our roots. Yes, we have used numerology in naming the movie in English. I believe we are nothing without celestial alignment or enlightenment happening in our lives.”
Talking about the significance of shooting the mahurat at New Theatres Studio (NT1), Indraadip Das Gupta said it was like coming back to where it all began. The studios were established by Birendranath Sircar in 1931. He was considered a pioneer in sound cinema. “It is a special feeling shooting the first scene of the project at this iconic studio,” says Indraadip.
He admits that writing a script that has well-fleshed out roles for such powerhouse actors is always a tough task. “If these actors have agreed to come on board it is understood that the script has been successful in engaging them at the narration level. The rest, obviously lies on how the emotions come out on screen,” signs off Indraadip. Variety India spoke to Prosenjit who said he was keen to experiment at this stage of his career. He said he was looking forward to push boundaries with every film and role. Indraadip Das Gupta has done films like "Kedara," "Bismillah," "Agantuk," "Padatik" and others.
