New Zealand Launches Indian Film Festival From October 23 to 25, ‘Teesri Kasam’ and ‘Pakeezah’ to Be Screened
A new film festival is in place for the fans of cinema. On August 25, it was announced that New Zealand will get its own film festival with 30 film screenings planned across 3 days and 3 cities. To be called the Indian Film Festival of New Zealand (TIFFNZ) it will be held from October 23 to 25.

Alongside film screenings, industry panels, Q&A post-screenings, networking events, and an awards evening have been organised for the film festival. The screenings of restored films “Teesri Kasam” and “Pakeezah,” as the opening and closing films respectively, have been planned. Veteran Hindi film star Waheeda Rahman, who led the former project with Raj Kapoor back in 1966, will be present at the opening night screening on October 22 and will be honored for her contribution to Indian cinema. The two movies have been recently restored by Film Heritage Foundation and NFAI-NFDC.
“Cinema has always had the power to bring people and cultures closer. Teesri Kasam is a film very close to my heart, and I am especially pleased that it will open the festival, allowing a new generation of audiences to discover its timeless story and poetry,” says Rahman ahead of her appearance at the festival.
The first edition of TIFFNZ will showcase 10 feature films, 16 short films, and have 4 special screenings. The projects will be spread across 11 languages, including Gujarati, Bengali, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, French, Japanese, Hindi, English, Nepali, Kashmiri, Punjabi, and Kumaoni, as well as a silent film.
