Kangana Ranaut’s Next ‘Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata’ Is About the Cama Hospital Firing During the 26/11 Mumbai Attacks (EXCLUSIVE)

Kangana Ranaut is continuing her passion with true-event based stories. Variety India has exclusively learned that her next film, tentatively titled “Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata,” is based on the incident at Cama and Albless Hospital during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

On November 26, 2008, when two Pakistani terrorists, Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan, attacked the hospital, killing guards and injuring staff while attempting to take control of the building, hospital staff acted quickly to protect patients and prevent further casualties. They shut the doors and windows as fast as they could, switched off the lights, turned off their mobile phones and immediately relocated patients to safer areas. Even as the threat of death hung over the head of every person in the hospital, the hospital workers didn't give up on safeguarding patients. The Cama and Albless Hospital became a major focal point in the initial hours of the 26/11 attacks due to the fierce shootout between the terrorists and the Mumbai police.

“Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata” will chronicle the horrific incident, focusing on the blue-collar employees of the hospital and their extraordinary courage during the crisis. Kangana is said to be playing a staff nurse in the film, which aims to spotlight the invaluable contributions of these everyday individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes. Alongside Kangana, Marathi actress Girija Oak also plays a leading role in the film. Oak is renowned for her work in films such as “Shor In the City,” “Qala,” “Jawan” and “Inspector Zende.”

Described as a “cinematic tribute to the unsung heroes”, the film is being directed by Manoj Tapadia, who started his professional journey as a copywriter, also wrote dialogues and songs before moving on to directing commercials. Ranaut's film marks his feature film directorial debut. Shooting of the project has already been wrapped, and it's currently in post-production, eyeing a late 2026 release.

“Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata” will mark Kangana’s another project inspired by true events. Prior to this, she starred in films such as “Emergency” (2025), “Thalaivii” (2021) and “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi” (2019), which were inspired by the life stories of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, actress and politician J. Jayalalithaa, and the revolutionary freedom fighter Rani Lakshmi Bai, respectively.

Kangana will next be seen alongside R. Madhavan in a thriller film, directed by AL Vijay. She's also said to be in talks with Aanand L Rai for “Tanu Weds Manu 3,” though that project is yet to be confirmed.
