Actor Jitin Gulati, known for his work in films like "MS Dhoni - The Untold Story" and varied web series like “Broken But Beautiful” and “Bambai Meri Jaan,” among others, has joined the upcoming mythological fantasy actioner “Mahakali”. Variety India has exclusively learned that the 46-year-old will be a part of the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU) with this new project. Gulati joined the sets last year and with production well in its advanced stages, the film is set to release on January 8, 2027.
Gulati sheds light on the effort that has gone into creating the film. “This is something audiences have never seen before in the mythological fantasy space. The kind of input that has gone in the look, character and the emotional graph [is new] and the way it is being handled in the story. It’s a character I’ve never played before so it’s a challenge for me.”

Notes the actor, “I have always wanted to work with Prasanth as I’ve watched ‘Hanu-Man’ and he’s one of the directors I really wanted to work with. I’m happy to become a part of the PVCU. This will be a benchmark for storytelling and the genre. Puja Kolluru and Prasanth Varma have done something extraordinary with this project and it’s all a result of their conviction, their vigor and their imagination. It will be a cinematic experience we’ve never had before.”
“My character comes in at a very pivotal point in the story, makes a strong impact and accelerates the story and concludes ‘Mahakali’,” says Gulati about his role in the film.

Previously, the first look of Akshaye Khanna as the demon Guru (Asuraguru) Shukracharya was revealed. Sharing his experience of working with the celebrated actor on screen, Gulati says, “All of my scenes in the film are with him. We all know what a fine actor he is. The experience of watching him on set getting into his character and committing to every take was one of my biggest learnings. He does not give up and tries to find truth in every scene. Working with him was a memorable experience”
‘Mahakali’ also stars Rohit Saraf and Bhoomi Shetty in crucial roles.
