Rajinikanth's 'Jailer 2' enjoyed a phenomenal extended first weekend at the box office. The massy comedy actioner continued to register strong numbers despite not having the advantage of a national or a festive holiday. In just four days, the film collected ₹199.90 crore and surpassed Thalapathy Vijay's final film, "Jana Nayagan" (₹198.57 crore) to become the year's highest Tamil grosser.

Out of the total business, the original Tamil version has contributed ₹143.70 crore with an average occupancy of 70.5%, followed by dubbed versions of Telugu (₹37.75 crore), Hindi (₹16.65 crore) and Kannada (₹1.80 crore), with average occupancies of 58.3%, 25.3% and 52.9%, respectively.

Interestingly, the film has also become 2026's highest Tamil grosser globally with ₹424.25 crore, overtaking "Jana Nayagan" (₹324.68 crore).

Despite several prominent new Indian releases, including Vijay Deverakonda-Rashmika Mandanna's "Ranabaali," Yami Gautam Dhar's "Nayyi Navelli" and Rajkummar Rao's "Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story," "Jailer 2" remained the top pick for cinegoers.

While the film is expected to stay steady today, it will again witness an upward swing tomorrow due to the festive holiday of Dussehra.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, who also helmed the first part, the film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under his banner, Sun Pictures.

The film sees Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik reprising their roles from the predecessor, with S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan as the new additions.

Just like its prequel, it has cameos by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff, with Hrithik Roshan and Vijay Sethupathi joining them.

The album of "Jailer 2" is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with the cinematography and editing done by Vijay Kartik Kannan and R. Nirmal, respectively.
