‘Jailer 2’ Box Office: Rajinikanth Film Breaks Multiple Records On Day 1

Rajinikanth-starrer “Jailer 2,” which released yesterday, broke several box-office records on its first day. Despite releasing on a non-festive weekend, the crime action thriller collected ₹59.70 crore, setting multiple opening-day records worldwide for a Tamil film.

The film overtook “Jana Nayagan” (₹42.70 crore) by a considerable margin, becoming the year’s biggest Tamil opener. It also became the biggest Tamil opener globally with ₹125.25 crore, beating Thalapathy Vijay’s final film (₹80.28 crore).

Rajinikanth’s Third Highest Opener

It emerged as Rajinikanth’s third-biggest opener after “Coolie” (₹65 crore) and “2.0” (₹60.25 crore), surpassing “Jailer” (₹48.35 crore), “Vettaiyan” (₹31.70 crore), “Darbar” (₹30.80 crore), “Annaatthe” (₹29.90 crore) and “Petta” (19 crore).Fourth

Among Indian films, it ranked fourth among top openers after “Dhurandhar: The Revenge” (₹102.55 crore, excluding paid previews), “Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups” (₹101.10 crore), and “Drishyam: The Conclusion” (₹62 crore).

Third Biggest Overseas Opener For A Tamil Film

 With gross collections of around ₹55 crore, "Jailer 2" became the third-biggest Tamil overseas opener after "Coolie" (₹75 crore) and "Leo" (₹66.50 crore)

Third Rajinikanth Film To Get ₹100 Crore Opener Worldwide

The film is poised to become Thalaivar’s third ₹100 crore opener after “Coolie” (₹151.14 crore) and “2.0” (₹115 crore).

While the film has shattered multiple records, it needs to maintain strong momentum over the extended weekend to deliver exceptional collections, followed by a solid hold through the weekdays.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran, the film sees Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik reprising their roles. New additions to the cast include S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, Anna Rajan and Jatin Sarna. Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff will reprise their cameo appearances in “Jailer 2,” with Hrithik Roshan joining them. The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
