‘Indian 3’ Enters ‘War Mode’: Kamal Haasan’s Senapathy Is Back With ‘Zero Tolerance’ In New Poster
By Sakshi Navare,
“Indian 3” is back on the cards. Lyca Productions has unveiled a new poster for the Kamal Haasan and Shankar sequel, confirming that the film’s shoot will resume after months of uncertainty surrounding its future. The production house’s announcement comes with a clear message from the franchise: “Senapathy is back with zero tolerance. The resurgence begins in #Indian3 War Mode.” The new poster places Kamal Haasan’s Senapathy at the centre of the update, while Lyca Productions has confirmed that work on the film will move forward.
Trade analyst Shreedhar Pillai has also reported that the shoot will resume and that “Indian 3” is now looking at a summer 2027 release. The summer 2027 window is currently a reported target, rather than a formally announced release date from Lyca Productions.
The development is significant given the uncertainty that had surrounded the film following the theatrical release of “Indian 2” in July 2024. “Indian 3” had already been announced as the next chapter, with a glimpse of the film attached to the end of “Indian 2”. However, the performance of the second instalment led to questions over whether Lyca Productions would proceed with the third film.

Those questions intensified earlier this year, when reports suggested that Shankar was preparing to move ahead with “Velpari” and that “Indian 3” could remain on hold. At the time, there was no official confirmation from Lyca Productions that the sequel had been shelved. Reports in September had also indicated that a substantial portion of the film had already been shot, with only limited additional shooting and patchwork believed to be pending, alongside significant visual effects work.
That earlier reporting now takes on greater significance with Lyca Productions officially confirming that the shoot will resume. “Indian 3” was shot in parts alongside “Indian 2”, with the story ultimately split across the two films as the material expanded. Shankar had previously explained that the original plan was to make the story as one film, but the scale of the material made a two-part structure more practical.
The third film picks up from the cliffhanger ending of “Indian 2”, which saw Rajinikanth's Senapathy escape after helping save an injured police officer. He then disappeared, leaving the story open for his return and setting up the next chapter of his fight against corruption.
Kamal Haasan returns as Senapathy, the vigilante character he first played in Shankar’s 1996 original “Indian”. The sequel also features Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, S.J. Suryah and Priya Bhavani Shankar, among others. Anirudh Ravichander is associated with the music, while Ravi Varman is the cinematographer and A. Sreekar Prasad is the editor.
The new announcement also changes the conversation around “Indian 3”. Until now, its status had largely been discussed through reports about whether the film would be completed, released theatrically or remain on hold. Lyca Productions’ latest poster and confirmation of the shoot resuming now establish that the project is moving forward.
