Director Suresh Triveni On Madhuri Dixit: “She’s A Brilliant Mimic” (EXCLUSIVE)

Director Suresh Triveni and Madhuri Dixit have teamed up for the highly anticipated dark comedy crime film “Maa Behen.” While Dixit is universally celebrated for her grace and acting prowess, Triveni revealed a surprising new side to the star during production — her hidden talent as an incredible mimic.

Director Suresh Triveni, a longtime fan of Madhuri’s effortless wit, wanted to tap into her comic charm in a fresh way. Describing the film's genre and core dynamic, Triveni shared how the project came together and the unique energy the cast brought to the table. “I had great fun making it. This one, as my writer Pooja Tolani tells me, is a domestic noir.” Set to release on Netflix on June 4, the movie features Dixit in a lively, full-fledged comedic role alongside co-stars Triptii Dimri, Dharna Durga, and Ravi Kishan.

The Tumhari Sulu director was instantly charmed by Dixit’s hidden comedic talents and her effortless ability to command a room right from their very first script reading. “I discovered that she can make sounds of a mosquito. You know, she’s a great mimic. Yes, she’s a brilliant mimic. We went with the script to her and I still remember that we had two hours. We exceeded that limit to three due to our overacting and then she said okay then and there. There is so much to learn from her and her dignity. She’s a great listener, disciplined and never late.”

Beyond her impeccable comic timing, Triveni highlighted how protective Dixit was of her younger co-stars, fostering a collaborative and disciplined environment even under tough shooting conditions. “She was so protective about Triptii and Dharna because they are supposed to be one dysfunctional functional, yet functioning. There’s so much to learn in terms of comic timing, especially since she’s come back to humor. I’ve seen her films like “Raja,” where she’s incredible. It was magic when she was on set. Every day, my DOP and entire team would set up a frame, be in complete awe of her, and we’d start shooting.”

He adds, “I can’t wait for people to watch her in this film. It’s a very different version of her. She’s danced in the film as well. During the wrap party, the entire team danced to her iconic songs, and everyone took back their own memories.”
