Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Satluj’ Pulled From ZEE5 Internationally

Honey Trehan’s “Satluj,” starring Diljit Dosanjh, has been pulled from ZEE5 globally, days after it was removed from the streaming platform in India.

The biographical drama, earlier titled “Punjab ’95,” premiered on the streaming platform on July 3 under its new title, “Satluj.” Two days after its release, the film became unavailable to viewers in India. ZEE5 subsequently said that, “in light of the current developments,” the film would remain unavailable in the country until further notice, adding that it was exploring appropriate avenues to bring it back to audiences. The film has now been removed from the platform internationally as well.

“At Zee 5, we are committed to bringing stories to our audiences that entertain, inspire and spark meaningful conversations. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are unable to offer the film 'Satluj', to our viewers. We are grateful for the interest and support Zee 5 as a platform has received from our audiences, and we remain committed to bringing compelling stories from across languages and cultures, around the world, ” says a Zee 5 Global Spokesperson.

Directed by Trehan, “Satluj” stars Dosanjh as human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who investigated alleged disappearances, extrajudicial killings and secret cremations in Punjab during the militancy period.

The film had previously faced a nearly three-year certification process with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Completed in 2023, it was originally titled “Punjab ’95” and later “Ghalughara” before being released as “Satluj.” “Satluj” was also previously scheduled to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023 but was withdrawn from the festival lineup.

The film eventually bypassed a theatrical release and premiered directly on ZEE5 on July 3. Following its removal in India on July 5, it continued to remain available in international markets for a limited period. It has now been taken down from ZEE5’s catalog globally. Alongside Diljit Dosanjh, the film also stars Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan.
