Last weekend was an eventful one for Indian cinema, with several prominent films across industries releasing to capitalize on the Navratri festive period. However, Rajinikanth-starrer “Jailer 2” dominated the box office by a wide margin, posting phenomenal numbers over its extended opening weekend. Interestingly, holdover releases maintained steady collections despite the juggernaut that the Rajinikanth action sequel has proven to be.

Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’ Posts Record-Breaking Numbers

The action-comedy sequel headlined by Rajinikanth opened to massive numbers at the domestic box office, raking in ₹199.90 crore over its extended opening weekend. A significant chunk of the collections was contributed by the original Tamil version, which contributed ₹143.70 crore to the total.

‘Ranabaali’ Underperforms

Starring Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda, “Ranabaali” underperformed at the box office, raking in ₹24.05 crore during its opening weekend. Given the period action drama’s considerable budget, the film needs steady weekday collections to improve its box office prospects.

‘Nayyi Navelli’ and ‘Prahaar’ Fail to Find Audiences

Apart from “Ranabaali,” two Hindi releases, “Nayyi Navelli” and “Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam,” also struggled to find audiences amid the dominance of “Jailer 2.” Yami Gautam’s horror-comedy collected ₹11.65 crore, while Rajkummar Rao’s legal drama earned a mere ₹9.15 crore over the opening weekend.

Strong Momentum By Holdover Releases

Despite the clutter of new releases, two prominent holdovers, “Drishyam: The Conclusion” and “Premada Oorali,” continued to perform well. Ajay Devgn’s thriller earned ₹14.35 crore in its third weekend, taking its grand total to ₹347.35 crore. Meanwhile, the Kannada family drama collected ₹12.15 crore in its fourth weekend, and currently stands at ₹77.40 crore.

With only two noticeable releases on the cards this week, Hindi films “Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar” and "Udta Teer," “Jailer 2” is expected to rule the box office, with “Drishyam: The Conclusion” and “Premada Oorali” maintaining fair collections.
