Curry Barker is returning to the big screen with “Anything But Ghosts”, a horror comedy that takes the filmmaker in a different direction after the success of “Obsession”. The film’s title logo was unveiled at BlumFest during New York Comic Con on October 9, offering another look at one of the upcoming projects on Blumhouse’s 2027 slate.

Written and directed by Barker, the film reunites him with longtime creative collaborator Cooper Tomlinson, who co-wrote the screenplay and stars alongside him. The premise revolves around wannabe ghost hunters whose attempts to make a living through paranormal deception lead them into a situation far more dangerous than they anticipated.

With Focus Features backing the film and a cast that includes Aaron Paul, Bryce Dallas Howard and Violet McGraw, “Anything But Ghosts” is among Barker’s next major theatrical projects. Here is everything to know about the film.

What Is “Anything But Ghosts” About?

The film follows a group of fame-seeking wannabe ghost hunters who find themselves in over their heads when their operation spirals wildly out of control. Barker and Tomlinson play the central ghost-hunting duo, whose business involves convincing people that they can communicate with the supernatural.

Barker has described the protagonists as con artists who know how to manufacture paranormal activity using tricks and special equipment. Their operation takes a dangerous turn when they encounter a genuinely threatening supernatural presence.

The premise gives the film room to combine horror with comedy, drawing on the gap between the characters’ confidence in their own deception and the danger of confronting something they cannot control. While the full plot remains under wraps, the official synopsis positions the film as a story about a fabricated ghost-hunting operation colliding with a real paranormal threat.

Who Is In The Cast Of “Anything But Ghosts”?

The film stars Curry Barker and Cooper Tomlinson, who also co-wrote the screenplay. Their creative partnership predates the film, with the pair having worked together on projects including the horror feature “Milk & Serial” and Barker’s other work as a filmmaker. The supporting cast includes Violet McGraw, Chris Reinacher, Bryce Dallas Howar, and Aaron Paul.

Is “Anything But Ghosts” Set In The Same Universe As “Obsession”?

Yes. Barker has confirmed that “Anything But Ghosts” shares a universe with “Obsession”, his recent horror film. The connection comes through a reference to the events of the earlier movie rather than a direct continuation of its central storyline.

During a post-screening question-and-answer session for “Obsession”, Barker revealed that the new film features a news report in which an anchor discusses a triple homicide involving a woman. The detail points towards the aftermath of “Obsession”, which follows Bear’s attempt to make Nikki fall in love with him through a supernatural wish.

The link offers a connection between the two films without suggesting that “Anything But Ghosts” is a conventional sequel. Its ghost-hunting premise and horror-comedy tone are distinct from the psychological horror of “Obsession”.

Barker has also indicated that the new film will feel different from his previous work while retaining his filmmaking sensibility. The shared universe gives viewers a reason to look for connections, but the film’s central story is designed to stand on its own.

When Will “Anything But Ghosts” Release?

“Anything But Ghosts” is scheduled to release in US cinemas on May 7, 2027. Focus Features announced the date on September 29, 2026, and will distribute the film in the United States, with Universal Pictures International handling international distribution.

The film was included in Blumhouse’s 2027 slate presented at BlumFest during New York Comic Con. The October 9 event featured Barker and Tomlinson discussing the project, alongside updates on other upcoming horror films.

With its theatrical date set and its title logo now revealed, “Anything But Ghosts” is moving towards its release as Barker’s next feature following “Obsession”. Further details about the plot, character arcs and marketing campaign remain to be announced.
