‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’ Takes Over ‘Kesariya’ As The No.1 Indian Track Of All-Time On Spotify

“Kesariya” from 2022’s "Brahmastra" is among Arijit Singh’s most popular songs. It’s such a fan favorite that he often performs it twice during his concerts. And up until recently, it was his most-streamed track on Spotify, and with more than 700 million listens, the highest-played Indian song of all time on the platform.

Then, sometime between the end of February and now, another Arijit smash overtook “Kesariya.” Surprisingly, it wasn’t one of his most recent hits, such as “Apna Bana Le” from 2022’s “Bedhiya,” “Chaleya” from 2023’s "Jawan", or “Shayad” from 2020’s “Love Aaj Kal.” In fact, it wasn’t even a song from this decade.

If your next guess is “Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage” from 2019’s “Kabir Singh”, you’re close but not quite there. That intense ballad holds another record — it’s been on Spotify’s Top Songs chart for India longer than any other track: for a whopping 363 weeks. It’s stayed there since it first entered the chart at the start of June 2019.

The tune that has overtaken “Kesariya,” in fact, predates Spotify’s launch in the country in February that year. With over 717 million streams at the time of publication, “Agar Tum Saath Ho” from 2015’s “Tamasha” is the new No.1 Indian song of all-time on Spotify. The poignant Arijit Singh-Alka Yagnik duet, composed by A. R. Rahman with lyrics by Irshad Kamil, has never gone higher than No.4 on Spotify’s chart, but it has consistently ranked among the top-streamed tracks of the past seven years.

Don’t feel too bad for “Kesariya”, and its composer Pritam and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya, though. If you add the approximately 20 million streams of its Dance Mix and the five million plays garnered by the remix by Belgian electronic music DJ-producer Lost Frequencies, it is the Indian song — if not the specific recording — with the highest number of listens on Spotify. Whether it’s “Kesariya” or “Agar Tum Saath Ho” at the top, the winners in either case are Arijit Singh and Ranbir Kapoor, the star of both “Tamasha” and “Brahmastra.”
