Aamir Khan Reveals That Rajkumar Hirani And He Were Not Fully happy with ‘PK’: ‘’OMG’ came out just before us and themes were kind of similar’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Actor Aamir Khan, known for his versatility and setting new box-office records, recently spoke about films that left him heartbroken because he had expected them to do a lot better than they did at the box office.

The 60-year-old star named two of his cult classic films — “Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar” and “Andaz Apna Apna”—and shared that he expected them to do much better.

“There were actually two films that, at that time, had not worked as well as we thought they would. One of them was 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar.' Commercially, it didn't do well that time. It did alright; it wasn't like a flop or anything; it was appreciated and did a certain amount of business, but not the kind of business one would imagine today,” Aamir told Variety India.

Talking about “Andaz Apna Apna,” he added, “I really believed in that film. I thought it was really funny, but when it came out, it didn't do well. People didn't get the humor. Maybe it was the timing. But today it's considered a cult classic. Almost everyone, every generation has seen it. Today, 18-year-olds have seen it. I'm shocked. I think those are the two films I  remember from early in my career, which I had expected would do much better than they actually did.”

Aamir also shared an interesting anecdote about his blockbuster “PK” and revealed that director Rajkumar Hirani and he were not completely happy with the film, as the original script was different.

“In case of 'PK,' which was a huge success, both Raju and I were not really fully happy with the film. Because originally, he had written a different script. And the second half was slightly different from what we had made. But there was another film that came out just before us called 'OMG – Oh My God!' And the themes were kind of similar,” explained Aamir.

Sharing how they had to change the second half due to Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal-starrer, he added, “The plot was totally different, because here (in “PK”) there is an alien, and it's all totally different, but some of the themes were similar. Raju (Rajkumar Hirani) was very adamant that we must change our second half and we did, and the film was also a success. But before the release, Raju and I discussed how we were not totally happy with the film, but how this was the best we could have done. Luckily, the film worked, and it was a big success.”

“PK”, which also featured Anushka Sharma, late Sushant Singh Rajput, Saurabh Shukla and Sanjay Dutt in key roles, went on to become the biggest hit of 2014.
