A documentary on President Droupadi Murmu is currently in the works, with Aamir Khan Productions backing the project and filmmaker-writer Svati Chakravarty Bhatkal directing it.
The documentary will chronicle President Murmu’s extraordinary journey from a small village in Odisha to becoming India’s first tribal President and the country’s second woman to hold the highest constitutional office. It aims to offer an intimate look at her life, highlighting her resilience in the face of personal challenges, her years in public service and her rise as an inspirational figure in contemporary India.

Known for championing socially relevant and human-interest stories through projects such as Satyamev Jayate, Aamir Khan Productions backs the documentary, highlighting its focus on telling stories that can inspire people and help bring about social change. Svati Chakravarty Bhatkal had earlier directed "Rubaru Roshni" (2019), an Indian anthology documentary that was produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao. Narrated by Aamir Khan, the film presented three real-life stories of violence, loss and forgiveness through first-person accounts from both victims and perpetrators. Acclaimed for its empathetic and humanistic approach, "Rubaru Roshni" delved into themes of healing, reconciliation and the transformative power of forgiveness.
The documentary on President Murmu’s life will explore the broader significance of her presidency, particularly for tribal communities and women. The documentary is shot at President Murmu’s village, and parts of her journey have been essayed by local actors.
