Srijani Roy Chowdhury

A.R. Rahman is collaborating with writer Rupa Chakravarty on the upcoming book “Rahman: A Renaissance.” It is an intimate memoir that will offer readers insight into the life, music and creative universe of one of the world’s most influential artistes.

Opening up about co-authoring the book, Rahman says, "My music comes from the constant evolution of my mind. The challenges, aspirations, dilemmas and tests I go through, the brotherhood I experience, the psychological turmoil, and faith, they are all interconnected. In some way, all of them become a part of the music I make. Through this book, I hope to share some of the moments, influences and ideas that have shaped that journey."

Over the course of his celebrated career, Rahman has built a body of work that has crossed languages, industries and musical traditions. From his breakthrough in Mani Ratnam’s “Roja” to his work on films such as “Bombay,” “Dil Se..,” “Lagaan,” “Swades,” “Rang De Basanti” and “Rockstar,” his music has become an integral part of Indian popular culture. His international work has further expanded his artistic footprint, most notably with “Slumdog Millionaire,” for which he won two Academy Awards and two Grammy Awards.

The book will delve into the ideas, influences and experiences that have shaped his journey, tracing his evolution from his early years to the music and philosophies that continue to define his work. It will offer readers a closer look beyond the spotlight, revealing the artiste and the person behind the music.
