Yim Siwan turned to acting while being a part of K-Pop group ZE:A back in 2012. Ever since, he has managed to appear in celebrated projects including “Misaeng: Incomplete Life,” “Emergency Declaration” and more recently, “Squid Game,” which earned him global fame. On the other hand, his portrayals in romance shows “Run On” and “Summer Strike” are widely discussed for his sincere acting.

In his new drama, “Love in Disguise,” Yim portrays a third-generation conglomerate heir, Yoon Yi Jun, who is a prime suspect in a murder case. As Kang Jae Hee (Seorina), a former special forces officer turned police detective, goes undercover as a man to become his personal bodyguard, conspiracy and romance walk hand-in-hand.

In an exclusive conversation with Variety India, Yim Siwan shares why he ended up taking on the role, “I think what I focused on the most in choosing this project was that I just wanted to play a character that had a kind and good heart. It didn't really have to be a rom-com. I just wanted a character who, at the end of the day, is a good person. And I think this series turned out to fit that description perfectly.”

Does this role encourage him to take on more romantic comedies? He avers, “I'm very happy with how this character turned out and I hope, maybe, this will lead me to my next rom-com one day. For my next project… Well, in this series, I played a chaebol heir — a very rich man, unlike the characters I’ve played before. So, for the next one, I think I want to go back to playing a not-so-rich character, someone who comes from a humble background.”
