Yash-starrer “Toxic,” which arrived today in theaters, takes a bumper opening across the country, with Hindi markets and Yash’s home state Karnataka leading the collections. The period-gangster-action-drama has raked in around ₹91.91 crore so far, and with late-evening and night shows registering strong occupancy, it will comfortably cross ₹100 crore by the end of its first day. In fact, with the contribution of premium pricing and formats, it might go up to ₹110 crore.

While the Hindi-dubbed version collected ₹52.62 crore with an average occupancy of 47%, the original Kannada language version registered a phenomenal average occupancy of 88% and added ₹19.62 crore to the grand total.

With these figures, it will become the sixth Indian film to have a hundred crore opening after “Dhurandhar 2” (₹102.55 crore), “Pushpa 2” (₹164.25 crore), “RRR” (₹133 crore), “KGF 2” (₹116 crore) and “Baahubali 2” (₹121 crore). Interestingly, Yash has achieved this feat for the second time in a row after his all-time blockbuster with director Prashanth Neel.

Despite mixed-to-negative reviews, there’s a surge in ticket bookings due to its buzz, scale and stardom of the lead actor. While the film is enjoying a solo release along with the advantage of Onam festivities and five day extended weekend, it would be interesting to see whether the poor word-of-mouth would impact its business at the ticket windows.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas of “Moothon” fame, “Toxic” also features Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Akshay Oberoi, among others in prominent roles.
