Vishal, Nassar Condemn Rajendra Prasad’s remarks on MGR; Seek Apology

By Sakshi Navare

Rajendra Prasad, a senior Telugu actor, recently grabbed headlines for remarks against legendary MGR (MG Ramachandran). At a public event, he praised the late Telugu star Kantha Rao and used demeaning words against MGR, saying, "MGR was scared of Kantha Rao and would wet his pants whenever he saw or knew about Kantha Rao."

Apart from creating controversy among the Telugu and Tamil film communities, the statement garnered criticism from actors like Vishal and Nassar. The “Pandiya Naadu” star expressed his dismay and tweeted, "Shocking and repelling to see and hear the recent comments of senior actor Shri Rajendra Prasad at a recent function (sic)."

Addressing the actor, he added, "I pen down this tweet condemning your speech about our late legendary actor the one and only #MGR, who has not only been a legendary actor but also a great leader in Tamil Nadu. Your speech about another legendary actor Shri Kantha Rao garu, praising him is a lovely gesture but at the same time bringing down and demeaning another legendary actor #MGR ayya whose still remembered forever is not going down well with the sentiments of our ppl (sic)."

He called on Prasad to handle the situation responsibly and concluded, "I request you to kindly put an end to this in a way that you know best which is a must and most important at this point. My apologies to you to mention that you tender an apology to this issue since I as an actor would do the same if someone in future speaks ill about an actor of your stature. Hoping in good faith, God Bless."

Veteran actor Nassar, known for his performances in “Roja,” “Thevar Magan” and “Bombay,” among others, has also appealed to Rajendra Prasad to issue an apology in a video statement.

“I saw the video of you praising the craft of Kantha Rao, sir. It is amazing to see an actor praising another actor. But I was hurt when you said something in comparison to the great actor, MGR sir,” said Nassar.

“Apolitically, we love and honour him. I am requesting you to tender an apology from your heart,” he added.
