‘Ustaad Bhagat Singh’ Box-Office: Pawan Kalyan-starrer Takes Good Opening, But Fails To Trump Prabhas’s ‘The Raja Saab’
Pawan Kalyan’s “Ustaad Bhagat Singh” arrived yesterday (March 19) at the box-office, amid the dominance of Ranveer Singh’s “Dhurandhar 2” across the country. The massy-actioner took a good opening in the Telugu-speaking states with the holiday of Ugadi (Telugu New Year) adding momentum.
“Ustaad Bhagat Singh” raked in ₹25 crore yesterday and emerged as one of the biggest opening days for the lead star. However, it failed to trump the first-day numbers of Parbhas’s “The Raja Saab” (₹53 crore) to become the biggest Telugu opener of the year.
While the film has garnered mixed reviews, Pawan Kalyan’s superstardom has helped the film get good footfalls at the ticket windows. Considering the current scenario, “Ustaad Bhagat Singh” is expected to earn close to ₹100 crore in its extended opening weekend, with weekdays becoming crucial for the film in the longer run.
Since no Telugu biggies are coming in the next few weeks, “Ustaad Bhagat Singh” will enjoy an open window in [the states of] Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Before the release, when director Harish Shankar was asked about his film competing with “Dhurandhar 2,” he told Variety India, “Even during the festive weekend of Pongal, when multiple films are released, I don't see one film to another film as a competitive thing because I think it's a celebration of cinema, not a competition of cinema.”
“Ustaad Bhagat Singh,” which also stars Sreeleela, Raashii Khanna and R. Parthiban in prominent roles, is bankrolled by Naveen Yerneni and Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar under the banner of Mythri Movie Makers.
