Rajinikanth-starrer “Jailer 2,” one of the most anticipated Tamil films of 2026, is set for a grand release on October 15. The crime action thriller is already getting a tremendous response in advance bookings, earning over ₹20 crore in pre-sales. With the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster “Jailer” riding on the superstar’s massive fan following, it is eyeing a spot among the biggest openers in Tamil cinema history.

Prominent Chennai-based trade tracker Ramesh Bala predicts a global opening of ₹150 crore, with overseas markets contributing ₹60 crore. He expects the film to gross ₹370 crore globally in its first weekend, including ₹120 crore from international markets.

Meanwhile, Akshaye Rathie, director of Aashirwad Theatres Pvt Ltd and a prominent film exhibitor, expects “Jailer 2” to register a historic opening in Tamil Nadu, followed by a strong performance of its Hindi-dubbed version.

“‘Jailer 2’ is primarily a Tamil film, and down south, in Tamil Nadu, I expect nothing short of a historic opening for it. In Hindi, the scenario is slightly different. From what I understand, the movie will release only in standalone cinemas, not in national chains. That obviously limits, to a certain extent, its reach and the numbers it can achieve in the Hindi-speaking market. Having said that, ‘Jailer 2’ is an absolute, roaring phenomenon,” Rathie says.

Explaining how the first film will help the sequel in North India, he adds, “The successful run of ‘Jailer’ will help the sequel in the Hindi-speaking market. Its subsequent run on streaming and television got a lot of viewership. I expect ‘Jailer 2,’ even in the Hindi-speaking market, to open to very good numbers, and go on to do very solid business.”

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the movie also stars Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff, S. J. Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vijay Sethupathi and Ramya Krishnan, with a cameo by Hrithik Roshan.
