‘The Drama’ Box Office India: Robert Pattinson-Zendaya Film Overshadowed By ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ in First Two Days

Robert Pattinson and Zendaya’s “The Drama” has not found the kind of box office footing in India that its pre-release buzz may have suggested. The romantic drama, which hit theaters in the country on April 3, 2026, has been outperformed in its opening two days by “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” the animated adaptation of the hugely popular gaming property that was released alongside it.

According to the box office report, “The Drama” earned ₹1.48 crore net in India over its first two days. While the film had generated notable interest internationally, particularly in Western markets where Pattinson and Zendaya’s pairing had become a major talking point, that momentum has not translated into a strong theatrical opening in the country.

The underwhelming start is particularly notable given the attention the film has received in the lead-up to release, with much of the conversation centered around its mysterious plot, genre-bending tone and the chemistry between its two stars. However, despite the curiosity around the title, Indian audiences appear to have responded more strongly to lighter, family-friendly viewing over the same weekend.

That edge has gone to “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” which, while not exactly posting breakout numbers itself, has still managed to stay ahead. As per Sacnilk, the animated feature collected ₹1.75 crore net in its first two days at the Indian box office, giving it a modest but clear lead over “The Drama.”

Neither title has opened to exceptional figures, but the comparison is still telling. “The Drama,” with its arthouse leaning, emotional complexity and Western star appeal, was always likely to cater to a more niche urban audience. “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” on the other hand, benefits from stronger family pull and brand familiarity, especially during a holiday-friendly window.

The coming weekend will now be crucial for both films, but for “The Drama,” the hope will be that word of mouth can help compensate for what has so far been a sluggish start in India.
