Siddhant Chaturvedi and Alizeh to headline Vikas Bahl’s Musical Set Against the UK Punjabi Underground Music Scene (EXCLUSIVE)
After directing critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as “Queen,” “Super 30,” and “Shaitan,” Vikas Bahl is now set to venture into a new territory with a full-fledged musical. Variety India has exclusively learned that Bahl is next working on a musical romance drama starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Alizeh in lead roles.
The yet-untitled film is said to be roughly inspired by the rise of the Punjabi underground movement in the UK. For an entire generation, UK Punjabi music was beyond music; it was rebellion wrapped in rhythm, blending traditional Punjabi folk sound with Western styles. The film is set in the 1990s, when the post-immigrant generation, with one foot in the UK and the other in Punjab, started adding their own flavor to the mix, creating an electrifying cross-cultural sound that got audiences of every age onto the dance floor.
